Brian Tresca
Visual Artist

About the Artist…

Brian Tresca grew up in a large suburb of New York City in northern New Jersey. He struggled with suburbia because there was nothing unique or creative about living in a textbook community where every house looked the same and every family had the same routine.

Brian’s first exposure to art was at a very young age. He would watch in fascination when his father drew the cartoons that appeared in the Sunday papers. When he was old enough to imitate, Brian did the same. Cartoon characters can be seen in some of his early artwork.

During high school, Brian and his friends escaped the doldrums and confusion of teenage life by playing music and participating in art classes. As a young adult, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Art/Psychology and has a Graduate education in Art Therapy. These days, Brian continues to create artwork, write lyrics, and compose and play music.

Over the years, Brian has lived in various parts of the United States and currently enjoys the solitariness in the picturesque mountains of Pennsylvania. He has a home studio, teaches expressive art workshops, and performs in a band.

As You Look at His Work…

In his artwork, Brian tends to depict people in solitary places. He believes that people should seek these kinds of places to escape the stresses of life. Wildlife and societal influences are also common themes in many of his works. Brian uses color to evoke a psychological reaction from his viewers. The three-dimensional style of his relief paintings adds complexity and depth to the subject matter. The paintings are made from air-dried clay that has been painted by hand using acrylic paint, mounted on wood, and outlined with a traditionally hand-cut wood frame or shadow box. Brian enjoys the process of merging the different art disciplines into a singular art form. Brian’s award-winning paintings have been shown in numerous galleries across the United States. They are to be enjoyed for both their content and their esthetic beauty; only then can a true connection be established and the art be truly appreciated.
